St Joseph’s College bus service

The College currently has three dedicated bus services to help parents avoid the peak-hour commute when transporting students to and from the College. The current routes are daily return services from the Eastern Suburbs, the Lower Northern Beaches and the Upper Northern Beaches (from Mona Vale through St Ives, Lindfield Station and North Ryde Station).

Applications for a place on the College Bus Service are strictly limited and subject to availability. Parents must book a seat for their son(s) as applicable on the bus service required. There is a cost to parents for using these services. To apply for a seat on this service or for further information please email the General Coordinator at travel@joeys.orgÌý

All parents/carers must agree to the College Bus Terms and Conditions before applying for the College bus service. Payment for the College bus service is via the student’s account.Ìý

Once you have requested a Bus Service, if you wish to make changes to your requirements, written notification must be sent to the General Coordinator at travel@joeys.org

Regional transport

Boarding students (Country/Rural) will require a Boarders Pass to receive free travel on NSW TrainLink Regional Services and long distance coach services.ÌýCountry Boarders travel to and from St Joseph’s College mainly on TrainLink long distance coach services.Ìý However, it has become increasingly frequent for XPT services to be used.Ìý Students on coach services are collected at the College gates or from Central Station and are usually dropped off at the railway station at their home destination.

On return trips, students on coaches are dropped off at the College gates; students on trains alight at Central Station.Ìý Where feasible the College provides a connecting bus service to and from Central Station.Ìý

Application forms are available from Student Services office.

Public transport

ROUTE 506Ìý
Route 506 is the most convenient since it travels along Ryde Road, past the front gates of the College. In the city, it can be boarded at Town Hall House, Druitt St and Town Hall Station, Park St.

ROUTES 500 and 501Ìý
These buses travel along Victoria Road and require about a 15-minute walk to the College. They can be boarded from Sydney CBD and Central Station.Ìý It is best to alight at the Manning Road bus stop. Each service is quite frequent with about 10 minutes between buses during peak hours and 20 minutes during off peak hours.

ROUTE 536Ìý
Chatswood Station – Hunters Hill: It travels along Ryde Road and can be alighted from Ryde Road (opposite Figtree Rd), next to the front gates. During peak hours it departs at 15-minute intervals and during off peak hours it operates at 30 minute intervals.

ROUTE 538
Woolwich – Hunters Hill

Boarders are entitled to free travel home within NSW.Ìý Application forms for a Boarder’s Pass are available from SJC Student Services.

Many boarders travel to and from St Joseph’s College on TrainLink Services.ÌýStudents are either collected at the College gates or depart from Central Station and are usually dropped off at the railway station closest to their home destination.ÌýOn return trips, students are dropped off at the College gates if travelling by coach, or at Central Station if travelling by train.ÌýA College bus is used to meet most trains on the inbound trip and to transport students to Central Station on the outbound trip.

Bookings are made by parents/carers through the College. Parents/carers are notified by email when the booking form is available through the College parent portal. Bookings must be completed by the closing date (noted on the booking form) and forwarded to the College. All bookings received by the College are sent to TrainLink; bookings not made by the due date cannot be accepted by the College. Late bookings are to be made directly with TrainLink and will usually be allocated to a regularly scheduled TrainLink service,ÌýNOTÌýa school service.Ìý

Once bookings have been made, students are to check their travel details are correct on the boarders’ TrainLink list which is displayed on dormitory noticeboards.ÌýIt is a good idea for parents/carers to place a reminder in their son’s diary three weeks into each term to let the College know of travel booking requirements in case of miscommunication.

Students may wish to travel at the end of term to go to a friend’s house in the country. There is a charge by TrainLink for this travel which is put on the student’s account. Bookings cannot be guaranteed for students not travelling to their home destination. Preference for the limited seating available is for boarding students travelling home, provided their booking was made by the deadline. For group bookings parents should make a reservation directly with regular NSW TrainLink services (phone 132232).

Once bookings have been finalised, tickets will be issued to the students two days prior to departure.ÌýThe travel timetable with arrival and departure information will be posted on the College parent portal. Ìý

Please note TrainLink has strict luggage restrictions. Passengers are permitted to take a maximum of two bags, each weighing no more than 20kg.Ìý They may also have one item of hand luggage not weighing more than 5kg.
